Getting a Tick Tested

Having a Tick Tested for Lyme Disease

Tick Submission Form

We do tick identification at our Sullivan Independence Hall office and if it is an engorged deer tick (feeding on the body for 48 hours or more) we can send it for testing to the State of Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station. They will test the tick to see if it carries the spirochete that causes Lyme Disease. There is Tick Submission Form to complete and a $5 fee. Ticks should be brought in alive (if possible) in a zip lock bag or sealed containers (not in Vaseline, oil or other substances) to the Health Department Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Please note: only engorged deer ticks can be sent to this state lab. To send un-engorged ticks for testing or to test a tick for other disease causing organisms, individuals can send the tick privately to the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.  Information on this lab can be found at our Tick-Borne Disease page at the link below.
