Meetings
The Board of Selectmen generally meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 4:00 pm both virtually and in the First Floor Conference Room in The John J. Sullivan Independence Hall, 725 Old Post Road. All schedules and locations are subject to change. Please check the Town Meetings Calendar for cancellations or location changes.

Description
The Executive Branch of Fairfield’s town government is a three-member Board of Selectmen, headed by the First Selectwoman. The Board of Selectmen is the executive policy-making board and gives recommendations for projects, goals, and issues affecting Fairfield.
Powers and Duties
The Board of Selectmen recommends and votes on budgets and spending authorizations, labor agreements, bonding authorizations, legal claims, board and commission appointments, use of town facilities and other items as dictated by statute, ordinance, and the Town Charter. The Board of Selectmen are ex officio members of the Board of Finance and the Representative Town Meeting and attend these meetings as well as other board and commission meetings.
The Board of Selectmen has wide-reaching powers to appoint members of boards, commissions and committees in town. All town officers, boards, commissions, and employees of the Town appointed by the Board of Selectmen will be responsible to them for faithful performance of their duties and provide reports upon request. The Selectmen can investigate any and all town offices, departments and agencies and have the power to issue subpoenas.
All contracts to which the Town shall be a party shall be subject to approval of the Board of Selectmen, except contracts authorized to be made by or on behalf of the Board of Education.
