The Town of Fairfield has a project for the pedestrian improvements along Kings Highway (US 1) between Chambers Street and Brentwood Avenue, possibly to Villa Avenue, if funding permits. Preliminary design has been completed and the project is slated for construction under the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP) administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the Connecticut Metropolitan Council of Governments (MetroCOG) Regional Planning Agency.

It is important that the community share its concerns to assist in the project's development. The Town will conduct an informational meeting on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 6:30 PM at the Board Of Education Offices, 2nd Floor Conference Room, 501 Kings Highway East, Fairfield.

The project is planned to construct new concrete sidewalks, new concrete curbing, ADA accessible handicap (curb cut) ramps, pedestrian signals, median improvements and some streetscape amenities.

The Federal Highway Administration will provide 80% of the construction cost with the Town providing 20% for the TAP program. A portion of the project will also be covered under LOTCIP funding, in which the State of Connecticut reimburses the Town 100% of the construction costs.
