11/9/2015 - Town and Chamber To Host 3rd Annual Holiday Shop & Stroll: Stroll Has New Charity Partner, Fairfield-Based Save the Children

First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced today that the Town of Fairfield and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor the 3rd Annual Fairfield Holiday Shop & Stroll on Thursday, December 10, 2015.

Participating shops will stay open late and will offer an assortment of hors d’oeuvres and seasonal refreshments. Traveling carolers and musicians from local schools will fill the air with holiday cheer, and local restaurants will be offering dinner or drink specials.

“This is a great opportunity to support our local businesses and get your holiday shopping done while enjoying a fun night out with family or friends,” said First Selectman Tetreau.

Chamber of Commerce President Beverly Balaz added, “The Chamber of Commerce is happy to be partnering with the Town on this festive event as it will give our businesses another opportunity to open their doors to the community, meet new customers from surrounding towns and together, help celebrate the holiday season with a wonderful shopping experience!”

New to the Shop & Stroll this year is the Town’s charity partnership with Fairfield-based Save the Children, which provides children in the U.S. and around the world with a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm.

On this night, participating shops will offer special programs for the evening and throughout the month of December for those who choose to make a donation to Save the Children.

Thanks to Kleban Properties, Save the Children will also have a tent along the Stroll route – at 1189 Post Road, on The Brick Walk, which will offer holiday strollers items for sale, as well as a chance to learn more about the global non-profit.

“Living in Fairfield, the Shop & Stroll is a holiday tradition my family and I look forward to, and Save the Children is extremely thankful to the Town of Fairfield for this partnership, which will spread holiday cheer and bring smiles to children worldwide who deserve a better life,” said Carolyn Miles, President and CEO of Save the Children.  She added, “This festive night presents the opportunity for shoppers to give twice – they can buy gifts for loved ones, while giving to children in need in the U.S. and around the globe.”

This year’s event will feature again an ice-sculpting demonstration, as well as additional ice sculpture display pieces by world renowned ice carver Bill Covitz of Ice Matters. Bill will be carving a single block of ice into a holiday motif. Businesses interested in sponsoring one of the ice sculpture display pieces should contact Community and Economic Development Director Mark Barnhart at (203) 256-3120.

Retailers or organizations that wish to participate in the event should contact Mr. Barnhart or Chamber of Commerce President Beverly Balaz at (203) 255-1011 by Friday, November 20, 2015.
