4/12/2014 - Eunice Dennis Burr Chapter of the D.A.R. Celebrates the Old Academy Renovations with a Ribbon-Cutting and Reception Event on Saturday, April 12th
In honor of its 210 years, and after extensive renovations, the Old Academy building on the Town Green, headquarters for the Eunice Dennie Burr Chapter of the DAR, will be officially recognized in a small ceremony and reception on Saturday, April 12th from 2 PM – 4 PM. First Selectman Tetreau and other town officials will be present, along with EDB Regent Cathy Tyminiak and other DAR members.
The public is encouraged to attend and see the beautiful work that has been done at the Academy. “The upper floor school house has been completely redone and now features elegant mannequins of a teacher and three students dressed in 1840s era period costumes that children and adults alike will find fascinating,” says Cathy Tymniak.
“This is the D.A.R.’s gift to the town to celebrate the 375th anniversary,” explains Tymniak. “It is another great event to honor Fairfield’s birthday and is testament to the town’s history and enduring legacy of education and preservation.”
