First Selectman Mike Tetreau wishes to remind residents that in celebration of National Electric Drive Week, Fairfield is hosting its first Electric Vehicle Showcase on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 11 AM to 2 PM in the Auxiliary Commuter Parking Lot at 140 Mill Plain Road across from the Parks and Recreation Department.
Get behind the wheel of the future of Automotive Technology. Seven local dealerships, including Miller-Nissan and Porsche of Fairfield, BMW of Bridgeport, Toyota of Westport, Curran and Prestige VW and Karl Chevrolet, will be demonstrating their electric options. There will also be electric bikes (surely a holiday hotlist item) courtesy of Zane’s Cycles for the public to test drive.
As for testimonials, enthusiastic members of the Westport Electric Car Club and local Fairfield-area owners will be there to show off their cars and talk about their EV experience from the ease of charging to road trips. Speaking of convenience, according to the Department of Energy, Connecticut has 185 public electric charging stations and 400 electric charging outlets. Fairfield has 10 public stations, with many more to come.
First Selectman Mike Tetreau, State Senator Tony Hwang and State Representative Laura Devlin will be on hand to discuss the importance of alternative fuel and electric vehicles for Connecticut’s transportation future. With Connecticut ranking among the lowest in the American Lung Association’s State of the Air Report Card 2015, anything that can be done to switch from fossil fuels would be beneficial to the health of our citizens.
Members of Fairfield’s Clean Energy Task Force will also be at this event to explain the Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Vehicle Purchase Rebate program, or CHEAPR, which provides rebates of up to $3,000 for the purchase of electric cars. In addition, there are federal tax credits of up to $7,500 available.
