7/27/2023 - PSA: KEEPING OUR COMMUNITY CLEAN Dear Fairfielders, We need your help keeping our beautiful Town clean. The Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Conservation, and Police Departments work daily to keep our parks and beaches clean and safe. We all live here together and need to do our part. Please remember to clean up after yourselves and to follow all posted rules when utilizing town property. In an effort for all of us to work together, I want to share our maintenance operation schedule with you, since I am often asked. Penfield and Jennings beaches are groomed Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Sasco and Southport beaches are groomed Tuesdays and Thursdays. South Pine Creek beach is groomed on Tuesdays. Lake Mohegan is groomed on Wednesdays. Public use garbage and recycling barrels are emptied at approximately 35 different locations throughout town each day, 7 days a week. During the summer months, we double the number of barrels throughout town. Beach garbage and recycling barrels are emptied twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Fields and parks barrels are emptied once a day. There is no garbage or recycling collection in the evening. Beach bathrooms are cleaned twice a day. Field and park bathrooms are cleaned once a day. Penfield Pavilion bathrooms are cleaned as needed by staff members on site. It is incumbent upon all of us to make sure all of our waste is properly deposited inside containers when leaving Town facilities, especially when leaving for the night. A special note about pizza boxes. We all love pizza; however, pizza boxes are not meant to fit in or on the top of garbage barrels and therefore should be taken home or put directly in the dumpsters located in the parking lots. We are also pleased to announce that new pizza box receptacles are on order and will be arriving next week. They will be placed at Penfield and Jennings beaches. If we have success with the new receptacles, we will look to add them to additional locations in the future. Some rules and regulations reminders: Smoking and vaping are prohibited on all beaches, including concession areas. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on Town parks, beaches, marinas, or open space without the express written permission from the Parks & Recreation Commission or Conservation Commission, as appropriate. No glass containers or glass utensils shall be carried into or used on any public beach or parking area. While on the beaches, children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, a person aged 16 or older who has custody or control or is providing supervision of a child. Loitering on the beaches, and patio areas of the Jennings, Penfield, or Lake Mohegan pavilions is prohibited after hours. Threatening, abusive, boisterous, insulting or indecent language or gesture in any beach, marina, park, or open space area is prohibited. Please note that our police are actively patrolling the beaches regularly and strictly enforcing alcohol and smoking related offenses. Recently, there were increased nighttime instances of disorderly conduct, including drinking and fighting at the beach. To foster a safe environment for all and with a primary focus on prevention and deterrence, the Fairfield Police Department implemented measures to enhance safety and security at our beaches during evening hours. These measures aim to deter disruptive behavior and maintain a peaceful atmosphere, ensuring that our beaches remain enjoyable spaces for families and individuals. If we work together as a community, we can preserve the peaceful nature of our public spaces. Click here for Beach Rules and Regulations. Click here for Rules for Open Spaces. HOW TO CREATE A TOWN PROPERTY MAINTENANCE REQUEST: To submit a maintenance request such as an overfilled garbage receptacle, you may submit a Citizen Service Request utilizing our Q-Alert system. Q-Alert is a web-based platform that allows the Town to track, manage, and resolve citizen service requests. Departments within the Town work together to ensure that the needs of citizens are met. This software is a great tool to bring awareness to issues within the Town, so the responsible Department can resolve the issue. Step by Step Directions on How to Create a Citizen Service Request: 1. Head to the Town of Fairfield homepage. 2. Click on the link on the right-hand side that reads "Citizen Service Requests." 3. Fill out the location of the request. 4. Provide the type of issue and attach any photos, details, and/or comments on the request. 5. Fill out your contact information so you can be made aware of the progress of your service request. 6. Click "Create Request." Thank you all for your efforts in helping keep our community clean. Brenda L.
