Town of Fairfield News
8/22/2021 - Hurricane Henri Update - Sunday
Dear Fairfielders,
We are pleased to see overnight the storm track for Henri shifted further to the east. As a result, storm impacts in our area are less serious than the National Weather Service and the State of CT guidance indicated last night.
Yesterday’s forecast led our Emergency Management Team to recommend reasonable precautions for residents and businesses. In that forecast, tropical force winds were projected to arrive by daybreak, which did not develop. As a result, we have not seen tree damage, power outages and coastal flooding as we anticipated.
The NWS and the State of Connecticut forecasts call for heavy rain today and tomorrow with total rainfall of 4”. Wind gusts will be lower than previously expected but minor inland flooding in low lying areas is still expected. Strong wind gusts are still expected this afternoon along with periods of very heavy rain and roadway flooding is likely. Tree and limb damage may cause some isolated power outages.
We don't anticipate significant flooding in the Fairfield Beach area but please continue to monitor the tides.
Stratfield Area and Rooster River Watershed residents should continue to monitor weather and rainfall projections.
Today, our emergency crews from DPW, Fire and Police along with our UI partners are monitoring weather updates and are responding to requests for service.
The Emergency Shelter at Fairfield Warde High School will be closed at 1 pm today.
The Evacuation Route Parking Ban in the beach area will be lifted a 1 pm today. |
