Town Clerks across the state of Connecticut learned late Monday afternoon that the Secretary of the State’s Office did not send absentee ballot exports for the last week to the third-party mail house responsible for mailing the ballots to qualified voters for the presidential preference primaries. The SOTS, who contracted with the third party vendor, realized last week it needed to end ties with the mail house, as they were not able process the absentee ballots in a timely manner.
This major change was not conveyed to us during the conference call Monday morning with Election Officials and the Secretary of State and her staff. My staff and I are now left responsible to fix this major setback with the primary only one week away.
We continue to work quickly and diligently to process the large volume of applications and to ensure that our voters are not disenfranchised. Please be patient, as we will issue hundreds of ballots this week. We appreciate your understanding.
If you are uncomfortable mailing your completed ballot back, there is a locked ballot drop box outside Old Town Hall.
