While each of our lives, our normal activities and traditional celebrations have dramatically changed, I hope every member of our community will remember the reason for this holiday weekend. Memorial Day is the day that we collectively come together as a nation and set aside time to remember those who fell on the field of battle in defense of our country and the freedoms that we hold dear as Americans.
Since the founding of our nation, nearly 1 million American service members have died both at home and abroad. They left behind loves ones and friends and sacrificed their lives so each and every one of us can live in the greatest country in the world.
While we aren’t able to come together for our traditional Memorial Day parade or the many ceremonies our community hosts this year due to the ongoing public health crisis, I hope that each and every Fairfielder will keep our fallen soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country in your hearts and minds throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
If you have an American Flag, I hope you’ll proudly display is this weekend in honor of Memorial Day. |
