3/19/2020 - 3.19 COVID-19 UPDATE
Good Evening,

I want to provide you with an update. We now have three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Town of Fairfield and many more are expected to follow.

I am asking residents in the strongest possible terms to take this pandemic very seriously and stay home. The CDC prevention tips tell us to maintain safe social distancing of at least six feet with people outside of your household because the virus is highly contagious.

I have received emails from residents who are unhappy that we closed the beaches. We have also received numerous reports and photos from alarmed residents of crowded beaches and kids playing sports together in large groups on our school grounds. These actions are putting our community at greater risk for transmitting the virus.
3.19.20 Press Conference
I am urging our residents to strictly follow the guidance of healthcare professionals and STAY HOME unless you need groceries or medical supplies so that we can flatten the curve and save lives. To be clear, this means changing our normal routines to STOP the spread of this highly contagious virus. I can’t stress this enough -- this is a national health emergency.

Town Hall will remain closed to the public through Friday, March 20th. Town Hall will partially reopen with a limited number of employees physically working in the building while others will be working remotely from home. Certain departments will be open by appointment only, and other departments will only be available by phone and email. Each department will update their respective web pages to share how they will operate and provide services by the close of business tomorrow.

I know this is a challenging time for our residents and our country. Our town's efforts in fighting this pandemic will fail unless YOU participate in social distancing recommendations. The time to flatten the curve is now.

Why should your kids not go to the park to play sports with their friends?
By close of business tomorrow, all departments will have information on their website as to how residents can reach them for questions or make an appointment where applicable.
