2/21/2020 - Weekly Update from the First Selectwoman
Dear Residents,

I had the pleasure of meeting with the executive members of the Strategic Plan Committee to learn more about our Town's Strategic Plan, which has been in the works for the last two years. The goal of the plan is to offer us a road map to achieve our shared vision for the Town. A professional consulting firm was hired long before I took office to assist in the process of getting input from all sectors of our community through workshops, an online survey and interviews.

They are releasing a 16-page summary of their findings; key topics include Governance, Economic Development, Education, Community Character & Resiliency and Financial Stability. I look forward to hearing more about their recommendations to help move our Town forward. You can read more about their work here

Recently, I asked our Police and Fire Departments to upgrade to our Standard Response Protocol for town employees and town buildings. I thank them for their work on updating this plan and for all of our department heads for joining us this week to learn ways we can improve safety in the workplace. We will be offering employees new protocols and training so they are prepared should an emergency arise in a public building

The police will be conducting security assessments in all of our buildings and we will be conducting meetings for town employees to provide input throughout the process. I thank Fire Chief Denis McCarthy and Police Chief Chris Lyddy for working together to the benefit of our Town.

For residents who are interested, CPR, Stop the Bleed, and many other programs are routinely offered at the Fairfield Regional Fire Training School. I look forward to participating in these trainings in the near future. Information about the next CPR course can be found here

This week I also met with President Mark Nemec of Fairfield University in my continued efforts to seek out new ways to partner with our universities on all they have to offer our community.

My staff and I also learned a great deal about the work of the Sustainable Task Force and their innovative ideas to make our town more energy efficient. I have been following their work for a long time and appreciate everything they do for our Town. We are very proud to have Fairfield as a leader in Connecticut for our green initiatives.

Finally, my budget proposal is almost complete and I am in the process of seeking feedback from leaders on other boards in town. I look forward to sharing my proposal with residents very soon. There are four major themes of my budget proposal: modernizing town government, prioritizing economic development, improving town services & efficiencies and investing in our town's infrastructure.

I will continue to keep you updated as we move our Town forward, together.

Sincerely Yours,

Brenda L. Kupchick
