9/10/2018 - Town Celebrates Fairfield American 12-Year-Old State Champions

First Selectman Mike Tetreau is very pleased to announce that the Town of Fairfield will host a celebration for the Fairfield American Little League 12s District Team on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 6:30 pm at the Town Green in front of Old Town Hall, 611 Old Post Road. All residents are welcome to attend. Should there be inclement weather, the event will be held in the gym at the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities, 100 Mona Terrace.

The Town will be honoring the 13 players for winning the Little League State Championship on July 29, 2018. This is the third year in a row that the Fairfield American Little League 12s District Team has won this coveted title. The team’s manager, two coaches, parents and town and state officials will be in attendance at the September 14th celebration where each player will receive a Certificate of Congratulations.

Fairfield American, which advanced to the Little League World Series last year, won the District 2 Championship game over Trumbull National 12-2, and then won the Section I championship with a 5-2 victory over Milford. Fairfield then prevailed over Manchester National 11-9 to win the CT state title, before heading off to Bristol, CT to play in the Little League Baseball New England Regional.

After coming off a big win against Maine at the New England Regional tournament where the offense piled on seven runs and pitcher Will Meyers limited Maine to just one run, Fairfield American (1-2) suffered a loss to New Hampshire. Despite eight hits, Fairfield American scored only three runs, losing 9-3, and thus eliminating Fairfield American.

Team Manager Jeff Gouley stated, “All 13 players played a vital role in a game at some point this summer, making this team a true, team of champions. Congratulations to the boys, their families, the league, and the Town of Fairfield.”

First Selectman Tetreau said, “Our town was thrilled when Fairfield American won the State Championship this summer.  We are very proud of the team and encourage residents to join us on Friday when we celebrate this major achievement!”

About Fairfield American Little League (F.A.L.L.)
F.A.L.L is one of two official little leagues in the Town of Fairfield. Participation is open to all kids who live within the Dwight, Mill Hill, Osborn Hill, Sherman and Riverfield school districts. F.A.L.L. offers three seasons of baseball to support young players in their continued development! The summer season features a Summer House League with two divisions, one for 9-10 year olds and one for 11-12 year olds. All players from Fairfield are eligible to participate, regardless of whether they played with Fairfield American or National in the spring. It is a true Town league! In addition, each age division between 8-12 fields two “travel” teams that participate in tournaments and games against other towns throughout the summer. The summer season begins in early June and runs through the end of July.
