7/16/2018 - Enjoy the Fairfield Sidewalk Sale & Street Fair - Saturday, July 21, 2018 10am-4pm, Rain or Shine - Shopping, Food, Music and More!
First Selectman Mike Tetreau wishes to remind the public that the annual Fairfield Sidewalk Sale & Street Fair will take place on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 10am to 4pm, rain or shine in downtown Fairfield. Select merchants will offer advance sales of discount merchandise beginning on Thursday, July 19th.
Over 75 vendors are expected to participate in Fairfield Center, setting up stands and offering a variety of merchandise for sales along the Post Road from the Heritage Square Shopping Center to the Promenade at the Brick Walk. Admission to the event, which is being co-sponsored by the Town of Fairfield and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, is free.
Sherman Green will feature activities for children and families, including an inflatable bounce house, face painting by Marcia Patterson of “Put on a Happy Face”, balloon artistry by Robbie’s Pack, and an appearance by “Storm” the Bridgeport Sound Tigers mascot. Members of the Fairfield Teen Theatre Company will also be presenting at 11am a preview of their upcoming stage production of “Les Misérables.”
This year’s event will feature live musical entertainment at multiple venues scattered throughout the downtown. Musicians will be playing at various times from 11am to 3pm at venues set up at the Brick Walk, Sherman Green, Heritage Square in front of the Community Theater, and near Lion’s Paw & Company which is located at 1552 Post Road.
Bankwell will be offering several raffle drawings each hour with the winner having 30 seconds to grab as much cash as possible in their “Money Machine” booth on Sherman Green. The equivalent of the money collected will be put into a Bankwell savings account, with a minimum of $25 and maximum of $75 to be deposited into the account.
Take a break from shopping and enjoy lunch at one of several participating restaurants downtown including the Old Post Tavern, where it’s “buy one, get one free” on house wines, house liquor and draft and bottled beer in the bar area from 3pm-6pm plus $5 flatbreads and $1 sliders. For those in search of a sit-down meal, Toto is offering a $15 pre fixe menu, while at Flipside Burgers & Bar, pitchers and glasses of sangria are 25% off.
First Selectman Tetreau said, “I encourage everyone to come and be a part of this fun-filled event, which includes live musical entertainment at various venues within the downtown, special menu offerings at our many fine participating restaurants, and activities for children and families.”

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
Hazardous Waste Collection Day: Saturday, August 28, 2021
9am - 2pm at Veteran's Park - 909 Reef Road
The Town of Fairfield hosts its annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on a Saturday in late August at Veteran's Park to provide you with the opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste at no charge. Just load up your car and your car will be emptied for you. There's no need to get out of your vehicle. See more details below.

What is Collected
Please click here to view a list of what household materials are accepted and which ones are not.
If you have only antifreeze, motor oil or automotive batteries, you can take them directly to the Transfer Station.
There is a specific traffic pattern for the Collection Day. There will be signage posted. Police and volunteers will also be on site to direct traffic and answer questions.
To access the site proceed as follows:
- From Old Post Road or Oldfield Road turn onto Rowland Road
- At the third stop sign turn right onto Edward Street
- Proceed to drop off site at Veterans Park
- Signage is posted and police and volunteers are on site to direct traffic and answer questions.
A few tips for transporting your hazardous waste to the collection site:
- Don't mix hazardous wastes. Keep waste in their original containers if possible.
- Keep hazardous waste away from children and animals.
- Don't smoke in the vehicle.
- For safety reasons, there will be no walk-in drop-offs on Collection Day.
Chemicals from around the home, workshop or garden shed may contain substances which are difficult to dispose of safely. Your effort will help protect our Town's environment and our region's water supply.
The Town needs volunteers from 8:30 - 11:30 or 11:00 - 2:00 on Collection Day. Volunteers will not be handling any hazardous waste. If you would like to volunteer please contact the Solid Waste and Recycling Department.
