First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced today that the public is encouraged to attend and provide feedback at the Penfield Building Committee which is being held on Thursday August 14, 2014 at 6 pm in the second floor conference room at the Board of Education Center, 501 Kings Highway East.
On August 14, 2014, the Penfield Building Committee will be presented with architectural drawings describing the recommended repair option that reduces the footprint of Penfield Pavilion and repairs and raises the remaining structure on new timber pile supported foundations in compliance with the recently revised FEMA Flood Zone requirements.
First Selectman Tetreau said, “The Committee is looking forward to public attendance and comment at this upcoming meeting. I want to thank the Committee for their diligent work in helping to get this important project completed properly.”
“Feedback from the citizens of Fairfield has been important to our Committee throughout our investigation and deliberations – people haven’t been shy about voicing their opinions when it comes to Penfield”, said Jim Bradley, Chair of the Penfield Building Committee.
August and September will be busy months for the Penfield Building Committee which was charged with recommending and then overseeing the repairs to the Penfield Pavilion which was heavily damaged by Superstorm Sandy in October 2012. The Committee has met twice a month since late December last year to review damage reports, engineering studies, and historical documentation related to the original project. The Committee has also interviewed engineering and coastal design experts as well as Town officials. The Committee has considered a variety of repair options eventually narrowing down a field of 11 to 3 and then to one. During this month and next, the Committee is slated to appear before the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance and RTM to present final recommendations and to seek funding for the repair and reconstruction project.
