First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced today that the Town’s Clean Energy Task Force (CETF) is inviting residents to review and comment on the initial draft of the Town’s first-ever master Sustainability Plan which details specific initiatives for safeguarding Fairfield’s natural and built environments, natural resources, and quality of life. The Sustainability Plan can be found on the Clean Energy Task Force’s webpage. Comments on the Plan can be emailed to fairfieldcleanenergy@gmail.com.

Authored for the Town by the Fairfield Clean Energy Task Force, with input from Town officials and other stakeholders, the Plan captures for the first time current, as well as planned actions, for enhancing Fairfield’s sustainability across 10 areas: air, the built environment, education and outreach, energy, financial management, food, the natural environment, transportation, waste management, and water.

First Selectman Tetreau stated, “In recent years, the Town, with the support of citizen volunteers, has launched numerous sustainability initiatives focusing on good stewardship of Fairfield’s natural and built settings, renewable energy and environmentally-friendly transportation, water quality and waste management, and many other areas. Along with the environmental benefits, these efforts are also yielding significant savings to our Town.”

First Selectman Tetreau continued, “Sustainability is a critical focus of the Town’s long-term strategic vision, and linking and coordinating our many projects on this front has never been more important. Because Fairfield’s citizens are crucial to the long-term impact and success of these efforts, we’re eager to ensure that our community has a strong voice in the planning process.”

The Plan describes both short- and long-term goals in each of the focus areas, and also shows how Fairfield’s residents can join the ongoing efforts to improve community sustainability. “We hope residents will review our Plan closely, let us know how to make it even stronger and more complete, and lend their active support to the cause of making Fairfield more healthful and sustainable for current and future generations,” said Scott Thompson, CETF Chairman.
