Dear Fairfield Easton Medical Reserve Corps Members,
You are invited to attend the 2016 Fairfield Easton Medical Reserve Corps Annual Education Session on Thursday June 2nd, 2016 at the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities (formerly Fairfield Senior Center). The event will run from 5:30 – 7:30 and includes dinner, awards and a raffle.
This year’s event will focus on “Emerging Infections” including Ebola and Zika and our speaker will be James Hadler MD, an award-winning infectious disease physician and medical epidemiologist. Dr Hadler is currently a senior consultant to the Emerging Infectious Disease programs for the State of Connecticut, Yale, and New York City. He was the Connecticut State Epidemiologist and director of the state’s infectious disease surveillance and control program for 25 years
At this year’s event we will ask volunteers to deploy for our Zika Prevention Campaign! This will involve members going door to door to distribute custom printed door hangers with directions on how to prevent mosquito borne illness, including Zika Virus. At the meeting, those who sign up will pick the streets the will be walking, receive a supply of door hangers and be given a “Health Promotion Activity” pin for their lanyard. Our goal is to reach 10,000 homes -- so to put that in perspective -- that’s 100 volunteers doing 100 homes or 50 volunteers to do 200 homes! If you want to volunteer but you can’t make the June 2nd event, you can still participate by coming to the Health Department on or after June 3rd to pick any remaining streets and get your door hangers and pin.
I hope to see you at this year’s Annual Education Session.
