We want to wish all school nurses, especially our school nurses here in Fairfield, a very Happy School Nurse's Day!
School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement and health of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety, including a healthy environment; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning (NASN, 2010)
Last year, the Fairfield School Nurses cared for students in over 92,000 health office visits, they participated in over 1,500 student-focused meetings and administered close to 30,000 medications. Our school nurses and ancillary staff promoted the health of students by screening over 4,000 students for both vision and hearing acuity as well as screening close to 1,400 students for postural abnormalities.
The Fairfield School Nurses did all of the above while adhering to state and local mandates and while providing quality individualized care to the students of Fairfield.
Thank you to all of our schools nurses here in Fairfield for all that they do!
