Description
The Historic District Commission discusses and votes on alterations to properties that are within the town’s three historic districts in Greenfield Hill, Southport, and the Old Post Road by downtown Fairfield.
Powers and Duties
Duties include:
- Approving nearly any change to a property that is within a historic district if that change is visible from a public street (assuming that natural barriers such as shrubs and trees are not in place, since they can be removed).
- Studying and making recommendations to the RTM to establish additional historic properties from time to time as it sees fit. Only properties authorized in writing by the owner of record shall be recommended by the commission as designated by the RTM as historic properties.
