Interested in serving on the Fair Rent Commission?
Pursuant to State Statute, the RTM recently created a Fair Rent Commission for the purpose of controlling and eliminating excessive rental charges for housing accommodations within Fairfield. The Commission will consist of five members and two alternates, all of whom must be registered to vote in Fairfield. In selecting the five regular members, priority shall be given to one residential landlord and one residential tenant; however, you do not need to be a landlord or tenant to apply. The regular term for the Commission is three years; however, because this is a newly established commission, the initial terms will be staggered, with one member serving a one-year term, two members serving a two-year term and two members serving a three-year term. Alternate members shall serve for three years. To learn more about the roles and responsibilities of the Fair Rent Commission click here. Anyone interested in serving on the Commission should complete a boards and application which can be found here. How to File a Complaint
If you wish to file a complaint, please complete the Fair Rent Commission Complaint Form. The complaint should be signed and dated and include a brief summation of the reasons for filing the complaint as well as contact information for the landlord and person filing the complaint. If you have questions or require assistance, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Once a tenant has filed a complaint, the Town's staff liaison will work with both the tenant and landlord to see if the parties can come to a mutual resolution of the complaint. If the parties are unable to reach an agreement, the complaint will be scheduled for an administrative hearing before the Commission.
