The Town of Fairfield's Emergency Management System was developed to effectively deal with disasters such as hurricanes, flooding and other large-scale incidents.  The Town of Fairfield is committed to being prepared for all types of emergencies and to preparing its citizens to most effectively deal with emergencies situations. 

Emergency Management Team Members

The Town of Fairfield's Emergency Management Team includes the First Selectwoman, the Fire Chief (who is the Town's Emergency Management Director), the Police Chief, DPW Director, Health Director, top officials and staff of other Town agencies and the Superintendent of the Fairfield Public Schools.  The Team conducts and coordinates the planning, training, drills and exercises necessary for the Town to be able to respond to emergencies.  The Team can be contacted through the Fire Department at 203-254-4720 or at EmergencyManagement@fairfieldct.org .

Emergency Operations Center

The Town’s Emergency Operations Center, located at Police Headquarters, may be opened when necessary. Depending upon the incident, representatives from Utility companies, CERT, non-governmental agencies such as the Red Cross, and others may be invited. Communication lines are opened with Connecticut DEMHS Region 1 in order to both receive information from the State and to transmit local situational information to the State.  Requests for State and Federal assistance also go through this channel.

  • Utility Alerts and Restoration page which offers guidance on how to report Utility service interruptions and how to receive Alerts and Restoration information.

Get alerted about emergencies and other important community news from the Town of Fairfield, CT, by signing up for the Fairfield Alert system. This system enables us to quickly provide you with critical information in a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons, evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods and other emergency situations. You will receive time-sensitive messages wherever you specify, such as your home, mobile or business phones, email address, text messages and more. You pick where, you pick how!

Town Hotline

During storm emergencies the Town maintains an information hotline that citizens can call to hear recorded messages - 203-254-4899.

Town Website

During storm emergencies the Town maintains a storm web page - fairfieldct.org/storm - that includes announcements and updates from the Emergency Management Team as well as other helpful storm-related information.  During a storm or other significant Town event, a red announcement banner will be displayed across the top of all Town web pages.

Citizen Corps Council

The Fairfield Citizen Corps Council was established in 2004 as part of a federal initiative after September 11, 2001, to increase citizen involvement and emergency preparedness. The Council consists of volunteers from various segments of the population and representatives from the Health Department, Police Department, Fire Department – Emergency Management, the American Red Cross, and more. The Council's mission is to identify ways to better prepare the Fairfield community to respond to a major emergency or disaster, and thus increase community resiliency. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

CERT is a program established by the Fairfield Citizen Corps Council. This volunteer group trains according to FEMA guidelines and provides a group of volunteers who are trained to be ready and able to help in a major emergency or disaster, under the direction of Fairfield Emergency Management.
