10/12/2022 - Oyster Shell Collection Bin

The Conservation Department and the Fairfield Shellfish Commission have deployed a red 95-gallon bin for the collection of used oyster shells by the public.  The receptacle is located at the entrance of the Conservation Workshop at 265 Richard White Way.  Please deposit you used oyster shells to be added to our shell collection pile.  Following the six-month cure time, the shells are returned to the tidal marshes and shorelines as part of the natural oyster regeneration process, as well as improve water quality and erosion control.  Please contact the Department at (203) 256-3071 with any questions regarding the shell recycling program.
