10/29/2021 - Conservation Dept. Submits Letter for Grant - Shellfish
On Thursday October 28th, The Conservation Department and Shellfish Commission along with a local non-profit, submitted a Letter of Intent for a Sustainable Materials Management Grant administered by the CTDEEP. The purpose of the Grant would be to enhance and expand our existing oyster shell collection program. By doing so, we could increase the volume of shells collected, increase the naturally occurring oyster bed populations once shells are re-applied, provide sediment stabilization in select tidal marsh areas and reduce landfill waste. We expect to hear from the CTDEEP in the coming weeks if our application was selected to move forward in the process. Stay tuned!
