Highway Commuting

Commuters can get a heads up about traffic problems on the area's highways through the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation site. The site features traffic cams, updated information on highway, bridge, and airport traffic and has ongoing tweets that provide the most current information. 

Bridgeport Port Jefferson Ferry

The Bridgeport Port Jefferson Ferry takes people and vehicles from Bridgeport, across the Long Island Sound, to Port Jefferson, NY.

Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority (GBTA)

The Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority provides bus service to sections of Fairfield. Routes and schedules may be obtained by calling the GBTA office at the number listed above or by visiting the web site.

GBTAccess (Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority)

Transportation services for the disabled are provided by GBTAccess. Applicants must be ADA eligible and certified. For reservations call 24 hours to 5 days in advance. All vehicles are lift-equipped. For information on fares and applications, call 203-366-7070.

The Metropool Website provides car and van pool information for commuters.

Bicycling

Fairfield is now implementing a townwide bicycle path network plan to help encourage biking as an alternative method of transporation in town. The first marked route is on now completed: Mill Plain Road and Unquowa Road, from Brookside Road to the Post Road. Fairfield is also installing down bicycle parking at popular destinations and the train station. View the planned bicycle rack locations here.
