8/6/2015 - Public Comment Encouraged for 2016 I-95 Paving Project

First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced today that the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Office of Engineering will pave a portion of the Northbound and Southbound sides of I-95 next April through October starting at the New England Avenue overpass in Fairfield to the Beardsley Avenue overpass in Bridgeport. On-ramps and off-ramps will also be paved in this 4.2 mile section of I-95.

Both sides of I-95 will be paved Monday-Friday during the late evening hours to early morning hours (about 9/10 pm to about 4/5 am). Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2016 and go through October 2016. Staging of the project is up to the contractor, but restrictions will be in place for the contractor to not close more than one ramp at a time.

The Department notes that its policy is to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with the State to assist in the project's development.

The public is encouraged to submit comments, questions or concerns by September 15, 2015 to:

Mr. William W. Britnell, Principal Engineer of Highway Design
(860) 594-3274 or William.Britnell@ct.gov
**Please make reference to State Project Number 0050-0219

About the Project:
According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the purpose of this pavement preservation project is to enhance pavement performance by using cost-effective treatments to extend the service life of the existing pavements. A section of I-95 in the Town of Fairfield and City of Bridgeport has been identified as a candidate for this program. The Department is developing plans to mill and fill a section of I-95 between the New England Avenue overpass and the Beardsley Avenue overpass for a total distance of 4.2 miles. This project will also include milling and filling of on-ramps and off-ramps. Also included will be minor bridge repairs to Bridge No. 00105A over Metro North and city streets in the City of Bridgeport. Detour routes will be provided should ramps need to be closed for construction activities.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation also states that the present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in December 2015, assuming acceptance of the project, availability and receipt of any right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with eighty percent (80%) Federal funds and twenty percent (20%) state funds.
