4/13/2015 - Town of Fairfield Recognizes National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced today that the Town of Fairfield has proclaimed the week of April 12, 2015 to April 18, 2015 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

First Selectman Tetreau joined Police Chief Gary MacNamara, Deputy Police Chief Chris Lyddy, Fire Chief Dick Felner, Deputy Fire Chief Kyran Dunn, Police Captain Don Smith and telecommunication employees at the Police Department today where he issued a proclamation to the Town’s telecommunicators.

First Selectman Tetreau said, “In recognition of the Town’s Emergency Communications Center operating for 25 years, it is very fitting to proclaim this important week and thank all our dedicated telecommincators-past and present-who work tirelessly behind the scenes 24/7 to assist our citizens and help keep our community safe.”

The proclamation honors and recognizes Fairfield’s telecommunicators and the vital contributions they make to the safety and well-being of the Town’s citizens. Dedicated telecommunicators daily serve the citizens of the Town of Fairfield by answering their calls for police, fire and emergency medical services and by dispatching the appropriate assistance as quickly as possible. Professional telecommunicators are critical to the Town’s emergency response, dispatching law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical services, and other emergency responders 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The proclamation also notes how professional telecommunicators perform a critical function when an emergency occurs requiring police, fire, or ambulance. Although they are not visible as the men and women who arrive on the scene of emergencies, they provide the vital link to public safety services as part of the first responder team.

Police Chief MacNamara said, “Over the last 25 years, the men and women in our Emergency Communications Center have become an integral part of providing services to the Fairfield Community. Their dedication and professionalism makes all of us in Emergency Services that much better.”

The photo shows First Selectman Tetreau issuing a proclamation to one of the telecommunicators, Liz Rodriguez, who’s been with the ECC since it opened 25 years ago.
