The Town of Fairfield, Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, and the Fairfield Museum and History Center are happy to announce that the traditional “Trick or Treat on Safety Street” will be moved and renamed to: Halloween on the Green, and held on the Historic Town Green behind the Fairfield Museum. The free event will take place on Sunday, October 30, 2016 and will run from 10 am to 4 pm.
The property behind the Fairfield Museum (370 Beach Road) will be magically transformed into a Halloween village, full of places to visit and things to see and do. Children can comfortably trick-or-treat in an enchanted, but not-too-spooky environment, at Halloween on the Green this year! Exciting displays will be set-up in the decorated historic buildings, including the Victorian Cottage, Sun Tavern and Old Academy Schoolhouse. This new venue will provide a safer area for children to enjoy and wear their costumes, away from the busy traffic on the former location of the Post Road. The event is recommended for families with children 12 and under.
This new town-wide event will include trick-or-treating, a children’s costume parade at 2 pm, hayrides, entertainment, crafts, games and more. The event is presented by Fairfield Museum, Town of Fairfield and Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored by Newman’s Own, TownVibe/Fairfield Magazine, Rotary Club of Fairfield, Kids First Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, Willows Pediatric Group, Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, Knights of Columbus Council 2616 & Father Coleman Foundation of Fairfield Inc., Stew Leonard’s, Magic Beans, LCP Contractors and Tumble Jungle.
Visitors will enjoy activities, games, storytelling, giveaways, costumed characters and more with many business and community partners. Enjoy activities, games and Trick-or-Treat with Fairfield Public Library (Grimm’s Fairy Tales), Fairfield University Bookstore (the Creepy Cottage), Daughters of the American Revolution - Eunice Dennie Burr Chapter (Wizardry in the Old Academy), First Church, Freshii, Junk Luggers, Kiwanis Club of Fairfield, Pequot Library, Rotary Club of Fairfield, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (Pumpkin Carving from 12 pm-4 pm for a fee), T. J. Jackson Mysteries and YMCA.
The Junior Women’s Club and National Charity League will be presenting The Icky Room & more inside the Sun Tavern. There will be entertainment by Double Up Dance Studio (performing Thriller!), Bob & Dave Band and Yoga, costumed characters and Yoga with Maggie Taylor in the morning. Star 99.9 will broadcast live from the event.
The Chamber of Commerce will also hold its fall Fairfield Market on the Green on the same day. The Market will be located in front of Old Town Hall, corner of Old Post Road and Beach Road. Featuring more than 50+ well-known and unique retail vendors, shoppers will have an opportunity to buy an endless array of fun and beautiful items. The Market will feature fall-themed food items like maple syrup and delicious Greek oils, antique, restored furniture, jewelry, beauty products, clothing, household items, and pet supplies, all ready to purchase on the spot to get a jump start on gift buying for the holidays. There will also be face painting.
