About the Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority (GBT)

The Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority (GBT) is a public agency that provides transportation for Bridgeport, Fairfield, Stratford and Trumbull with extended services to Derby, Milford, Monroe, Norwalk, Shelton and Westport.  GBT also provides door-to-door service for riders under its Access program with 26 mini-buses, as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and operates a coordinated senior transportation service in cooperation with the communities of Bridgeport, Fairfield and Trumbull

Funding is through fares plus investments from the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contributions from its four member municipalities.  The agency is also a designated recipient of federal funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), which provides eighty percent of the requisite funding for capital projects with the remaining twenty percent provided by CDOT and contributions from its member municipalities.  Although a small part of its overall operating budget, GBT’s operations depends heavily on municipal contributions for both the operating and capital programs.

Duties include:

  • Providing transportation services for Fairfield, Bridgeport, Stratford, Shelton and Trumbull and
  • Providing para-transit transportation service for the elderly and disabled within these areas as mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
